Summary

This website is for parents, teachers and mentors who want to help the young people in their care build self-esteem while finding a career path.
Through this simple process, you will pinpoint a person's interests and then use the Internet to explore how those interests are strengths that are needed in existing jobs and careers.

The process

  • Meet a person who performs the job of interest for a living.
Find out what their work day is like.
  • At anytime throughout the process, look up the jobs of interest and learn about them.
  • Repeat steps 1-8 in the summertime when school is out.
  • 8. Do an internet search with each circled word one by one with each of the synonyms for 'job'.
look at the search results for names of interesting jobs and write them down.
  • 7. Take the next circled word and repeat steps 5 and 6 to connect the meaningful term with careers.
  • 6. Repeat step 5 but type in the word 'work' instead of 'job'.  Repeat this with other synonyms:
Career, occupation, employment, profession, business, trade,
  • 5. Type the first meaningful word followed by the word 'job' into a search engine like Google.
Look through the search results for names of jobs that seem interesting, and write them down.
